From barrel to blockchain
in three steps

Every barrel gets a digital identity. Every event gets a cryptographic fingerprint. Every fingerprint gets anchored to a public blockchain. Here's exactly how it works.

The Key Insight

RFID is for you

Bulk warehouse operations. Scan hundreds of barrels in one walk-through. Fast, efficient, industrial-grade.

NFC & QR are for everyone

Investors, auditors, and buyers tap their phone on a barrel or scan the QR code. Instant access to full provenance. No app needed.

Blockchain is the proof

Every scan — RFID, NFC, or QR — creates an event that gets permanently anchored to the Polygon blockchain. Tamper-proof, publicly verifiable.

STEP 1: CAPTURE

RFID Tags on Every Asset

A small RFID tag is attached to each asset when it enters the system. These tags can be scanned from up to 20 metres away — no line of sight needed.

Walk through a warehouse with a handheld reader and scan hundreds of items in minutes. Each tag has a unique identifier permanently linked to that asset. Scanners store codes in memory — no internet needed in the field.

NFC Smart Tags

An NFC sticker is also placed on the asset. Anyone with a smartphone can tap it to instantly access that item's full digital identity.

No app required. Works with any modern iPhone or Android. The tap opens a secure read-only verification page showing the asset's complete history.

QR Codes + 1D Barcodes

A QR code and Code128 barcode are generated for every asset, linked to the same record as the NFC tag. Scan with any phone camera or handheld scanner.

QR codes and 1D barcodes serve as backups for environments where NFC range is limited. They can be printed on labels via the Print Label button. Same data, same verification, same blockchain link. iPhone users can scan via wired USB connection in HID mode.

STEP 2: RECORD

Every Scan Creates an Event

Whether it's an RFID bulk scan, an NFC tap, a QR code scan, or a 1D barcode scan — every interaction automatically creates a timestamped provenance event.

Events include: item received, inspected, transferred, sampled, sold, temperature logged, ownership changed. Offline scans are stored in the scanner's memory and auto-sync when connected back at the office — the system detects batch dumps and processes all codes instantly.

SHA-256 Fingerprinting

Each event gets a unique cryptographic fingerprint (a hash). This hash includes the previous event's hash, creating an unbreakable chain.

If anyone tries to alter a single record, every hash after it breaks. The chain is self-verifying — tamper with one event and the entire history flags it instantly.

STEP 3: ANCHOR

Batched to Blockchain

Every 3 hours, all pending events are bundled into a Merkle tree. The root hash of that tree is written to the Polygon blockchain — one transaction, thousands of events secured.

This is cost-efficient: instead of one blockchain transaction per event (expensive), we batch them. One transaction can anchor hundreds of barrel events. The Merkle tree lets any individual event be independently verified against the root.

Publicly Verifiable

Every anchored batch gets a transaction hash on Polygon. Click it and you're on PolygonScan — a public blockchain explorer anyone can access.

No trust required. An investor, auditor, or buyer can independently verify that a barrel's records existed at a specific point in time and haven't been altered since.

QR Codes = NFC (Same Blockchain Link)

Every NFC tag on a barrel has a matching QR code. They point to the exact same verification page, the exact same blockchain record. Both create scan events.

NFC tap and QR scan both open the same barrel verification page

Both create a "scan" event that gets anchored to blockchain

QR codes can be printed on barrel labels, warehouse signage, or certificates

Works with any smartphone camera — no NFC capability required

Batch-generate up to 100 QR codes at once for bulk barrel tagging

NFC Tap

Hold phone near barrel tag. Instant. Works through gloves. Range: 1-5cm. Best for: investors visiting, quick verification.

QR Scan

Point phone camera at QR code. Range: up to 1 metre. Best for: barrel labels, printed certificates, warehouse signage, dusty environments.

RFID Scan

Handheld or fixed reader. Range: up to 20m. 500+ tags/sec. Best for: bulk warehouse audits, stock-takes, automated tracking.

Who Uses What

Cask Investors

Tap their phone on a barrel's NFC tag or scan the QR code

See full provenance: fill date, age, location, ownership transfers, condition history — all blockchain-verified

Auditors & Regulators

Request blockchain verification report

Every event is timestamped, hashed, and linked to a Polygon transaction. Immutable audit trail with no manual records to question

Warehouse Operators

Walk through rickhouse with RFID handheld

Scan 500+ barrels in one pass. Every scan logged, positions verified, misplaced barrels flagged — all feeding into the blockchain

Quality Teams

IoT sensors monitor temperature and humidity 24/7

Condition breaches trigger alerts and are permanently recorded. Angel's share data tracked year over year with blockchain proof

The Bottom Line

Every barrel in your warehouse gets three layers of digital identity: RFID for your operations team, NFC for anyone with a phone, and QR codes as a universal backup. All three feed into the same blockchain record. One barrel, one truth, permanently verifiable.

No spreadsheets. No trust-me documents. No manual logs. Just scan and prove. Need a report? The Export Center generates inventory, valuation, scan history, stock take, RFID codes, and zone summaries — all filtered by vertical, all one click.
